My sterilizer switches off after 2-3 minutes of starting a cycle. Is this due to a malfunction?

It is quite likely your sterilizer needs to be descaled. Look at the hotplate at the bottom of your sterilizer. If you see a white/gray surface, it means you need to descale it.
