Where can I find my wireless network name and password?

Before you connect your Philips Blu-ray player to a Wireless Network, you must know the following details about your Wireless Network:

  • SSID: This is the name with which the player or another computer identifies the wireless network.
  • Security Type (WEP/WPA Authentication Type): This is the encryption protocol set for the Wireless Router during its setup. Your device supports the following security types - None, WEP, WPA-PSK (TKIP), WPA-PSK (AES), WPA2-PSK (TKIP) and WPA2-PSK (AES). 
  • WEP/WPA Authentication Key: It is a security key (like a password) which is used by a wireless router to recognize and provide access to wireless capable devices connected to the router. 

Where to find the wireless network name and password:

If you have a computer running Windows 7 or Windows Vista connected to the same Wireless network as the one you are trying to connect your Philips Wifi Device to, use the following steps to find the required setup information.

1. Left click on the wireless icon in the notification area of the taskbar to see which Wireless Network you are connected to. In our example we are connected to PNFAVDEMO.

2. Right click on the connected network (in our example it is PNFAVDEMO) and then click on Properties.

3. Once the Properties window opens, go to the Security Tab and make sure you have "Show characters" checked to see the security key in clear text. Then make a note of the following; which for our example is:


SSID: PNFAVDEMO
Security Type: WPA2-PSK (TKIP)
Security Key: w1f1d3m0

Note: These values are applicable only for this example.

If you have a computer with Windows XP connected to the same Wireless network as the one you are trying to connect your Philips Blu-ray player to, you can see the SSID & Security Type but not the Security Key. Please ask the person who set the key or in general refer to the documentation of your wireless router to obtain the security key and other settings if required.
