Question

How do I descale my Xelsis?

Answer

Regular descaling is necessary to ensure a long lifetime of your Saeco machine. How often the descaling procedure must be done, depends how much coffee, water or steam has been dispensed.
60 liters is the benchmark –so if your Xelsis has used about 30 tanks of water, it should be descaled. It does not matter whether the water was used for brewing coffee, frothing the milk or just to rinse the system.

Attention: Do not use vinegar to descale.
Please use Philips / Saeco descaling agent with the name CA6700/00 or RI9111/12. You can purchase it at (http://www.philips-store.com/store/) or at a local dealer.

Preparation:
Before you start descaling, remove the INTENZA water filter. Also make sure that you have one or more containers nearby that hold the same volume of liquid as the water tank.
To prepare the descaler solution, please empty the contents of the descaler into the water tank and top with fresh water. Please make sure, that you fill the tank to MAX, otherwise more rinsing of the unit may be required.
Reinsert the tank to begin descaling. The complete process will take approximately 35 minutes.

You can descale your machine as follows:

  1. Select the menu option DESCALING CYCLE and confirm with OK.
  2. Warning: Once this selection is made, the whole cycle will have to be completed. Press OK to confirm or ESC to exit.
  3. Refill the water tank with the descaling solution. Confirm with OK.
  4. Empty the drip tray under the dispensing spout and reinsert. Press OK.

  5. Half fill the carafe with fresh water. Insert the carafe and place it in the brewing position. Press OK.
  6. Place one container under the dispensing spout and one container under the hot water wand. Press OK.
  7. The descaling cycle will start automatically. The screen will show the progress.
  8. If the containers need to be emptied, press the PAUSE button. Press START to resume the cycle.

  9. After the end of the first step (when the descaling solution is empty) the machine will require a tank rinse.
  10. Please clean the tank thoroughly and fill it with fresh water. Reinsert and confirm with OK.
  11. Empty the drip tray under the dispensing spout and reinsert. Press OK.
  12. Empty the carafe and refill it with fresh water. Insert the carafe and place it in the brewing position. Press OK.

  13. Place one container under the dispensing spout and one container under the hot water wand again. Press OK.
  14. The rinsing cycle will start automatically. The screen will show the progress.
  15. If the containers need to be emptied, press the PAUSE button. Press START to resume the cycle.
  16. Once the rinse cycle has finished, your machine will be ready to use.

Warning: A full descaling and rinse cycle should be performed.
