Question

How do I descale my Odea (descale version 1.0)?

Answer

There are two different versions of the descaling procedure for Odea models, version 2.1 and 1.0.
Please check first, which version for your machine is the correct one. For a detailed help on this see below related articles: “How do I recognize, which version of the descaling procedure applies to my Odea?

When descaling light is flashing, it indicates that your machine needs to be descaled:

Caution: Never use vinegar as a decalcifier.
Use the Philips/Saeco decalcifier. You can purchase the SAECO decalcifier separately in the Philips online shop (shop.philips.com) or at a local dealer.

Descaling procedure version 1.0

The complete descaling takes about 35 minutes and consists of 3 cycles: 1 descaling cycle and 2 rinsing cycles.

Before you start the descaling cycle, make sure that;

  • The drip tray is empty.
  • You have a large container (about 1 L) nearby to collect the water during the descaling process.
  • The extra INTENZA+ water filter is removed from the water tank. (if applicable)
  • The pannarello / cappuccinatore are removed. (if applicable)

Descaling cycle:

  1. Empty the water tank and poor the entire Philips/Saeco descaling solution in it. Fill it up with fresh water to the MAX level and put it back.
  2. Place a container under the hot water/steam wand.
  3. Turn the selector switch to the position and dispense ca. 300ml descale fluid in the container.
  4. Turn the selector switch to the  position to stop dispensing.
  5. Empty the container, place it back and turn off the machine for 10 minutes.
  6. Turn the machine back on after 10 minutes and repeat steps 3-5 until the water tank is empty and the alarm light turns on. Turn the selector switch to the  position.

First rinsing cycle:

  1. Empty the container and place it back. Rinse the water tank and fill it up to the MAX level with fresh water.
  2. Turn the selector switch to the  position. The machine starts dispensing water through the steam wand.
  3. Turn the selector switch to the  position when the water tank is empty.

Second rinsing cycle:

  1. Empty the container and place it back. Rinse the water tank and fill it up to the MAX level with fresh water.
  2. Turn the selector switch to the position. The machine starts dispensing water through the steam wand.
  3. Turn the selector switch to the  position when the water tank is empty.
  4. Press and hold (for about 6 seconds) the steam button until the descaling light turns off.
  5. Rinse the water tank and fill it up to the MAX level with fresh water. Put it back in the machine.
  6. Rinse the drip tray and put it back.
  7. Reinstall the pannarello/ cappuccinatore and INTENZA+ water filter (if applicable).
