Question

How do I descale my Odea (new descaling process)?

Answer

For this machine there are two different descaling procedures. Please check, which procedure is applicable for your machine before you continue. For a detailed help on this please have a look at the attached FAQ.

Regular descaling is necessary to ensure the long life of your Saeco machine. How frequently the descaling procedure must be carried out, depends how regularly you use your machine. 30 liters is the benchmark – So if your Odea has consumed about 17 tanks of water, descaling should be done. It does not matter whether the water was used for brewing coffee, frothing the milk or just to rinse the system.

When this LED is flashing, it indicates that your machine needs to be descaled:

Attention: Do not use vinegar to descale.
When descaling use the original Philips / Saeco descaling agent, product number:CA6700/00 or RI9111/12. You can purchase it at (http://www.philips-store.com/store/ ) or through one of our authorised distributors.

Preparation: Remove the Panarello (if available) from the steam wand as well as the INTENZA water filter before you´ll start descaling. Also make sure that you have one or more containers of suitable size nearby (1,5 lt.).
Pour the whole bottle of descaler into the water tank and then fill up to the top with water. Please make sure, that you fill the tank to MAX mark, as otherwise may more rinsing processes will be required. After that, reinsert the tank, and continue to the next steps of the descaling process which should take approximately 35 minutes.

Note: You can also carry out the descaling process manually at any time, you don’t have to wait for the machine to notify you.

You can descale your machine as follows:

  1. Place one container beneath the steam wand and another container beneath the coffee spout.
  2. Please press the button for 5 seconds, to start the descaling process. If the LED lights up immediately after the start, please vent your machine first. For this, please adjust the button to the
position B3. If the system is vented, the LED flashes. Turn the button to the position and start the descale process again.
  3. The machine starts to emit water from the brew unit. Subsequently the LED  will light up constantly, please turn the button to the position .
  4. The machine will now dispenses the descaler fluid in regular intervals until the water tank is empty. After that, the LED will begin to flash. At this point turn the button to the position

The next stage it to start the rinsing cycle:

  1. Fill the water tank with fresh water and place it back again.
  2. Empty the container and drip tray. Place the container beneath the steam wand and coffee spout again and place the drip tray again.
  3. Turn the button to the position and wait until the LED starts to flash. Then turn the button back to the position .
  4. The machine will start the emit water directly from the coffee spout. Once the LED lights constantly please turn the button to the position .

  5. Now the remaining water will output through the steam wand. Once the tank is empty, the LED turns on. Empty the container and drip tray. Place the container beneath the steam wand and coffee spout again replace the drip tray. Fill the water tank with fresh water and place it back again.
  6. Once the water tank has been reinserted, the machine will start a second rinse and continue the output of water to rinse the steam wand. After completion of the cycle the machine will be in standby mode. Turn now the button to the position to finish the descaling.

When the descaling process is completed, please reattach the Panarello (if any) back onto the steam wand. Your machine is now ready for use.

Warning:
If descaling is interrupted by turning off the machine, the water tank and internal pipes must be rinsed through in the machine with clean water before using.
