Question

How do I descale my Syntia (new descaling process)?

Answer

For this machine there are two different descaling procedures. Please check, which procedure is applicable for your machine before you continue. For a detailed help on this please have a look at the attached FAQ.

Regular descaling is necessary to ensure a long life for your Saeco machine.
How often the descaling procedure must be done, depends on how much coffee, water or steam has been dispensed.
Descaling should be done if your Exprelia has used about 60 litres,or 30 tanks of water.
It does not matter whether the water was used for brewing coffee, frothing the milk or just to rinse the system.

In some areas the water may have a particularly high hardness level (high lime content).
In these areas the descaling is more often needed than the machine indicates.
If you use the machine very regularly (E.g. 1 coffee per day), it is may be necessary that you perform the descaling cycle more frequently. In, this case it is important to descale your machine every 1-2 months, or when a message appears on screen instructing you to do so.

Attention: Do not use vinegar to descale.
Please use Philips / Saeco descaling agent (CA6700/00 or RI9111/12). You can purchase descaling agent from our shop (http://www.philips-store.com/store/) or at a local dealer.

Preparation: Remove the Panarello (if applicable) from the steam wand as well as the INTENZA water filter before you start with the descaling.
Make sure that you have one or more containers of suitable size (min. 1.5 litres) to hand.
Pour the whole bottle of descaler into the water tank and then fill up to the top with water.
Please make sure that you fill the tank to MAX mark, as otherwise more rinsing processes may be required.
After that, reinsert the tank, and continue to the next steps of the descaling process which should take approximately 35 minutes.
