Question

How do I descale my Intuita?

Answer

Limescale builds up inside the machine during use. It needs to be removed regularly as it may clog the water and coffee circuits of your machine. The machine indicates when descaling is needed. If the " " button is permanently on, the machine must be descaled.

Caution:
Never use vinegar as a decalcifier.

Use the Philips/Saeco decalcifier. You can purchase the SAECO decalcifier separately in the online shop (http://shop.philips.com/) or at a local dealer.

Descaling instructions:

The complete descaling takes about 30 minutes and consists of 3 cycles: 1 descaling cycle and 2 rinsing cycles.

Before you start the descaling cycle, make sure that;

  • The Pannarello/Cappuccinatore/Automatic milk frother are removed.
  • The drip tray is empty.
  • The extra INTENZA+ water filter is removed from the water tank (if applicable).
  • You have a large container (about 1.5L) nearby to collect the water during the descaling process.

Attention: once started you need to complete the descale procedure till the very end!
During the procedure you cannot switch off the machine by pressing the ON/OFF button. If you have switched the power button on the back or unplugged the machine, the descale procedure is interrupted. When you turn the machine back on, the " " button will continue to flash and you cannot use the machine. To finish the descaling procedure after interruption, please follow the instructions; “I have interrupted the descaling procedure by switching the power button on the back or unplugging the machine. How do I continue?” under ‘Related Articles’ below.

Descaling cycle:

  1. Empty the water tank and pour the entire bottle of Saeco descaling solution in it. Fill the water tank up with fresh water to the MAX level and put it back into the machine.
  2. Place the container under the steam/hot water wand and the dispensing spout.
  3. Press and hold the " " button for about 3 seconds. When the " " button starts flashing, release it to start the descaling cycle. Note: The " " button flashes during the whole descaling cycle. As long as this button flashes, the descaling procedure is active and not finished.
  4. The machine starts dispensing the descaling solution at regular intervals. This takes about 15 minutes. It dispenses alternately through:
    - The steam wand. When it does the " " button shines steadily.
    - The dispensing spout. When it does the " " button shines steadily.
  5. When the descaling cycle is finished, the " " light turns on and the " "button starts flashing. The button continues to flash.

Second rinsing cycle:

  1. Empty the drip tray and the large container.
