Question

My computer running on Windows XP has wrongly recognized the PSA player as digitial camera or scanner.

Answer

You may have Windows Media Player 9 which does not support Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) devices installed on your computer. Upgrade to Windows Media Player 10 version provided on the PSA's Installation CD.

  1. Insert the Philips Installation CD into your computer.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation of Windows Media Player 10.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. Connect your PSA to a power outlet with the supplied AC adapter. Don't connect it to the PC yet.
  5. Download the "Detect Philips GoGear Devices_v3 " zip file in the attachment section to a temporary folder or your desktop on your PC.
  6. Unzip the patch fix file and save it onto the desktop of your PC.
  7. Double click on the "Detect Philips GoGear Devices " icon
    .
  8. Connect your PSA to your computer when prompted and select OK.
  9. Wait for a few seconds as the tool tries to detect the Philips device you have connected to your PC, if the detection is successful, then you will see suitable message from Windows saying a new device has been found, and you will also be able to see the connected Philips device in Windows Explorer.

If you already have Windows Media Player 10 installed and still have this problem, you may need to uninstall the Philips driver from Windows Device Manager and reconnect the device to your computer.

  1. Conect your PSA to a power outlet with the supplied AC adapter.
  2. Connect your PSA player to the computer with the USB cable.
  3. Right click on My Computer.
  4. Select Properties.
  5. Select the Hardware tab.
  6. Click on Device Manager button.
  7. Expand the Imaging Devices and select Philips.
  8. Right click on Philips and select Uninstall.
  9. Click OK on the Confirm Device Removal window so that the driver is uninstalled.
  10. Disconnect the device from PC then reconnect it.
  11. Now the device will be detected as MTP device.
  12. Launch Windows Media Player 10 to transfer the music to your PSA device.
