Question

Can my neighbors tap into my powerline ethernet network?

Answer

There is a very small chance of that.

To prevent unauthorized use of your Powerline Ethernet network, you can setup security. To do so, list down the product ID number indicated on the product type label, insert the CD-rom and follow the easy to use wizard. The security software used 56-DES encryption.

Additionally the existing power meter (traditional power meters, with a motor made of coils) serves as natural filter for approximately 80%-90% of all ingoing and outgoing powerline ethernet traffic (i.e. only products connected to this power meter can be part of the network). The coils of the power meter block the Poweline signals.
