Question

How can I connect my home theater system (HTS) or surround sound system (SSS) to the TV?

Answer

Your TV is equipped with several types of connections. The type of connection you should use to connect your audio equipment depends on which features of the audio system you want to use.

Before connecting the devices, you have to manually add your devices to the Home menu in order to select the devices to watch their programme.

If you wish to connect the audio out from the TV to the audio system.

NOTE: Your TV DOES NOT have an analogue audio output (red and white) connection and the SCART DOES NOT support audio and video output. The audio system must have a digital audio input or HDMI source with Audio return channel functionality in order to work with the TV.

There are two ways to connect your TV to a audio system:

  • Digital audio output
Connect the audio cable from the 'DIGITAL AUDIO OUT' connection of the TV to the 'AUDIO IN' connection of the audio equipment.

In order to connect the digital audio out (coax) from the TV to an analogue stereo system, you will need a Digital-to-analog converter (DAC or D-to-A). Make sure that the convertor supports the conversion of both LPCM (Linear Pulse Code Modulation) and AC3 (Dolby Digital) audio format. If you are unsure whether or not a particular converter is suitable, consult your retailer.

  • HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC)
This feature allows output of TV audio to a HDMI source with Audio return channel functionality. You do not need to connect a separate SPDIF audio connection. Connect the 'HDMI (1) ARC' connection of the TV with a HDMI-HDMI cable to the 'HDMI ARC' connection of the audio equipment.

Follow these steps to connect the devices:

  1. Switch the TV and the HTS off.
  2. Connect choosing one of the above solutions.
  3. Switch the TV and the HTS on.
  4. Select a TV channel.
  5. Select the input on the HTS to which the TV is connected.
  6. Adjust the volume on the audio equipment to hear the sound from the speakers of the audio equipment.
  7. If you do not wish to hear the sound from the TV, press the volume down button on the remote control to turn the TV's volume down or set to OFF mode in the TV SPEAKERS menu.
  8. You can also use the TV remote control to adjust the volume on the audio equipment if;
    • Your source is HDMI CEC compliant with system audio control functionality and activated.
    • The source and TV are connected via a HDMI cable.

  9. If you connect via the HDMI ARC connection, you need to set the HDMI-ARC feature to ON mode in the Setup>TV settings>EasyLink>HDMI-ARC menu.
NOTE: Make sure that your HTS is HDMI ARC-compliant and activated. For detailed information, refer to the user manual of the HTS.
  10. If you experience a delay in the audio signal from the HTS, verify if the digital audio lipsync feature in the Setup>TV settings>Preferences>Audio Out delay is set to ON mode.

  6. If the TV did not switch to the HDMI input, ensure that the EasyLink feature on the TV and HTS is activated.
  7. If your source is not HDMI CEC compliant, manually switch the TV to the HDMI device in the Home menu.
  8. If you do not wish to hear the sound from the TV:
    1. If the source is HDMI CEC with system audio functionality, the TV speakers will be muted automatically when the TV is set to EASYLINK mode in the TV SPEAKERS menu.
    2. If your source does not have the system audio functionality, press the volume down button on the TV remote control to turn the TV's volume down or set to OFF mode in the TV SPEAKERS menu.
    3. Adjust the volume on the HTS to hear the audio from the HTS loudspeakers.
