Question

How can I improve the picture quality of my TV?

Answer

In order to enjoy the highest picture quality available, make sure that your setup complies with the following conditions:

  1. Connect the signal source using a HDMI cable.
  2. Verify that the source signal is of High Definition (HD) content, which means either 1080i or 1080p video format.
  3. You will only be able to enjoy the full advantages of High Definition content if you connect your external device using a HDMI cable.
  4. If your external device does not have HDMI outputs, the next best option is the YPbPr (also called component or YUV) connection.

NOTE: Make sure the TV has the latest software installed.

If you use a direct cable connection from the wall outlet:

  1. Check the incoming cable or antenna signal connection to make sure that it is properly secured to the TV's antenna input.

You can check the quality of the signal reception in the options menu.

    1. While watching a TV channel, press the 'OPTIONS' button on the remote control to display the options menu.
    2. Press the cursor down to select STATUS and press the 'OK' button.
    3. The status menu appears displaying an overview of the current TV information.

  2. Although an analog connection does not offer the same quality, you can still obtain an excellent picture if you observe the following guidelines:

    1. Check your cables and cable connections.
      1. Make all your cables as short as possible.
      2. Use high-quality antenna cable.
      3. Connect the plugs well into their outlets.
      4. Do not use an antenna cable splitter. Splitting the signal will make it considerably weaker.

    2. Change the picture settings on your TV. The standard configuration is set to match conditions in a TV store.

You can use the smart settings in the TV menu to set your TV to a predefined picture mode that will give you the best picture quality.

Follow these steps to select the settings that suit your preferences:

      1. Press the 'ADJUST' button on the remote control to access the Adjust menu.
      2. Press the cursor right to select SMART PICTURE and press the 'OK' button to display the list of available settings.
      3. Press the cursor up or down to select the predefined settings according to your preferences.
      4. Press the 'OK' button to confirm.
      5. Press the button to exit the menu.

Alternatively, follow these steps to select the settings that suit to your preferences:

  1. Press the button on the remote control to access the home menu.
  2. Use the cursor buttons to select SETUP and press the 'OK' button to confirm.

  5. Press the cursor up or down to select a setting.
  6. Press the cursor right to select and use the cursor buttons to adjust/set them according to your preferences.
  7. Press the button to exit the menu.

What is HDMI?

  • HDMI is an abbreviation of High-Definition Multimedia Interface.

  • HDMI is one-way connection that connects digital audio/video sources such as a set-top box, an HD DVD disc player, a Blu-ray Disc player, a PC, video game console, or an AV receiver to a compatible digital audio device and/or video monitor such as a digital television (DTV).

  • HDMI connects an uncompressed digital RGB signal from the source to the screen. By eliminating conversion to an analog signal, it delivers an unblemished image.

  • The non-degraded signal reduces flicker and leads to a clearer picture. HDMI intelligently communicates the highest output resolution with the source device.

  • The HDMI input is fully backward compatible with DVI sources, but it includes digital audio. HDMI uses HDCP copy protection.

What is YPbPr?

The YPbPr, also called component video, is the highest quality interconnection standard for analog video. It is sharper than S-video and composite video. The component connection requires 5 cables, which are 3 video cables (Red, Blue, Green) and 2 audio cables (Red, White).
