Question

When I use my vacuum cleaner, the appliance produces an unpleasant smell.

Answer

The unpleasant smell may have different causes.

  1. A smell may occur when you have just installed a new filter.
  2. A smell may occur when the dustbag or the dust bucket is full, which restricts the airflow and increases the temperature of the motor.
  3. A smell may occur over time when the exhaust filter becomes dirty or clogged, which restricts the airflow and increases the temperature of the motor.
  4. If it is a cemical smell, the smell may be due to a new filter. The smell should fade after a few hours of use.
  5. If it is a burning smell;
    1. Check if the dustbag or the dust bucket is full. If this is the case, change the disposable dustbag, empty the reusable dustbag or empty the dust bucket.
    2. Replace the exhaust filter if it is dirty or clogged.

Tip: There is always a smell coming out of the appliance when you are vacuuming. If you use a bag vacuum cleaner, you can buy scented granules to mask this smell.
