Question

A light flashes on the control panel of my machine. What should I do?

Answer

There are several indicator lights on the control panel. The messages conveyed and the solutions that are possible depend on which light is on and how it is on. The lights can be steady on, they can flash slowly or they can flash quickly. The table below shows the meaning of the different light signals and which steps to take if you see such a signal.

Descaling light

  • Flashing slowly:
    • The machine needs to be descaled. For this machine two different descaling procedures are applicable, version 2.1 and 1.0. Please check first, which version for your machine is the correct one. For a detailed help on this see below related articles: “How do I recognize, which version of the descaling procedure applies to my Odea?”
    • If the descaling light keeps flashing after you have proceeded the descaling process. Please follow the instructions in articles below: “I cannot finish the descaling procedure and the indicator light keeps flashing. What can I do”?

Alarm light

  • Steady on:
    • The coffee bean hopper is empty. Refill the coffee bean hopper with coffee beans and restart the brewing cycle.
    • The water tank is empty. Fill the water tank with fresh water.
    • The drip tray/coffee grounds drawer is full and needs to be emptied. Empty the coffee grounds drawer while the machine is on. The machine only registers that the coffee grounds drawer is emptied and resets the ‘coffee grounds drawer full’ signal when it is turned on.
  • Flashing slowly (once per second):
    • The service door is open or not closed properly.
    • The brew group is not inserted or not inserted correctly. Take out the brew group, clean and grease it. Place it back again into the machine. If you have trouble with inserting or taking out the brew group, please follow the instructions in “How to remove and reinsert the brew group” in Related Articles below.
    • The coffee grounds drawer is not inserted or not well placed.
    • The coffee bean hopper lid is not properly placed. The lid features a magnetic closure and for safety reasons the grinding process only starts when the tray is properly closed.
    • The steam/hot water knob is not correctly turned to the desired position.
  • Flashing quickly (10 times per second):
    • The water circuit needs to be vented. If you have trouble with venting the machine, please follow the instructions in “How do I vent my Odea” in Related Articles below.

Temperature light

  • Steady on:
    • The machine is ready for use.
  • Flashing slowly (once per second)
    • The machine is in stand-by mode. After 30 minutes of inactivity, the machine goes into stand-by mode, the boiler is no longer heated and all the lights turn off with the exception of the temperature light which will blink slowly. To turn the machine on again simply press the brew button. The machine will go through the rinse cycle if the circuit is cold.
  • Flashing
    • The machine is warming up, wait until the light is steady on.
  • Flashing quickly (10 times per second):
    • The machine is too warm, dispense some water to cool down the machine.

Coffee grounds drawer light

  • Steady on:
    • The coffee grounds drawer is full and needs to be emptied.
Note: Always make sure that the coffee grounds drawer is emptied while the machine is turned on. If the coffee ground drawer is emptied while the machine is turned off, the coffee cycle counter is not reset. In that case, the indicator light that warns you to empty the coffee grounds drawer may even light up when the drawer is not full.

Coffee grounds drawer light and descaling light:

  • Flashing alternately
    • A fault has occurred in the machine and hot water and steam cannot be dispensed, and espresso cannot be brewed. Turn off the machine, wait for 30 seconds and then turn it on again. Try this 2 or 3 times. If the machine does NOT start, contact Philips Saeco Consumer Care Contact Page
