Question

Descale version 2.1; How to descale my Xsmall.

Answer

When the red “ ” light starts flashing quickly and the green “ ” light is on, you need to descale your machine according to the descaling procedure version 2.1, as written below.

Note: If you are not sure which descale version to follow, for a detailed help on this see below related articles: “Which version of the descaling procedure applies to my Xsmall?”

Attention:

  • Once started you need to complete the descale procedure till the very end without switching OFF the machine
  • The complete descaling takes up about 30 minutes and consists of 3 main cycles; 1 descale cycle and 2 rinsing cycles.
  • Caution: Never use vinegar as a decalcifier. Use the Saeco decalcifier (CA6700). You can purchase it at a local dealer or in the Philips Online shop http://shop.philips.com/.
  • During the process, you cannot turn the machine OFF through the ON/OF button. If you have unplugged the power cord to stop; you need to plug it back and finish the descale procedure. Make sure the control dial is in the “ ” position and turn themachine ON by pressing the ON/OFF button. The machine will automatically start the descaling process from step 6.

Descaling procedure version 2.1
Before you start the descaling cycle, make sure that;

  • The drip tray is empty.
  • You have a large container (about 1,2 liter) nearby to collect the water during the descaling process.
  • The extra INTENZA+ water filter is removed from the water tank. (if applicable)
  • The pannarello / cappuccinatore are removed. (if applicable)

Descaling cycle:

  1. Empty the water tank and poor the entire Philips/Saeco descaling solution in it. Fill it up with fresh water to the MAX level and put it back.
  2. Turn the machine OFF by pressing the ON/OFF button.
  3. Turn the control dial in the “ ” position.
  4. Place a large container under the hot water/steam wand.
  5. Press the “ ” and the “ ” button at the same time for about 5 seconds. The red “ ” light starts flashing quickly and will keep on doing this throughout the entire descaling cycle.
  6. The machine starts dispending internally at several one minute intervals the descaling solution in the drip tray. It does not dispense through the hot water/ steam wand. This will take approximately 5 minutes. Wait until the green “ ” light turns on.

    Attention
: If you have not turned OFF the machine before pressing the two buttons, it will start dispensing coffee instead of activating the descaling cycle. If this is the case, start again at step 2.
