How do I descale my Royal?

Answer

Regular descaling is necessary to ensure the long life of your Saeco machine. We recommend descaling your Saeco for every 20 tanks of water used. It does not matter whether the water was used for brewing coffee, frothing the milk or just to rinse the system.

In some areas the water may have a particularly high hardness level (high lime content). In these cases the descaling is needed more frequently than the machine indicates. If you use the machine only occasionally (ex. 1 coffee per day), it is necessary that you perform the descaling cycle more frequently. In these special cases, it is important to descale your machine every 1-2 months, regardless of whether the machine notifies you.

Attention: Do not use vinegar to descale.
Please only use the original Philips / Saeco descaling agent with the name CA6700/00 or RI9111/12. You can purchase it in our shop or (http://www.philips-store.com/store/) or at a local dealer.

For descaling there are two different ways:

Automatically descaling:

Preparation:
Remove the Panarello (if available) from the steam wand as well as the INTENZA water filter before you´ll start with the descaling. Also make sure that you have one or more containers of suitable size nearby.Pour the entire content of the Saeco concentrated descaling solution into the water tank, and then fill the tank with fresh water up to the MAX level. Place the tank back into the machine. The complete descaling process will take approximately 45 minutes.

You can descale your machine as follows:

  1. Select the menu option „descaling“ in programming mode with the buttons . Confirm with .
  2. The display shows the message, that the descaling cycle is activated.
  3. Place an empty container (1,2 l) beneath the steam wand and cappucinatore (if any).
  4. Turn the selector switch to the position .

  5. Your machine starts now the descaling. The pump delivers a small amount of descaling solution in the system and interrupts in regular intervals to allow the agent to act.
  6. The complete descaling process will take approximately 45 minutes. If the descaling solution is completely consumed and the tank is empty, the display screen will show that the process is finished.
  7. Please finish the steam output with the selector switch and press the button . Empty the container. 

You can rinse your machine as follows:

  1. Clean the water tank thoroughly and fill it with fresh water.
  2. Place an empty container (1,2 l) beneath the steam wand and cappucinatore (if any). Please start the steam output and dispense the complete water tank capacity.
  3. When the rinsing cycle has finished, the display screen will alert you.
  4. Please close the steam output with selector switch and press the button . Now you can reset the descale indication with the menu option. 

You can install the Pannarello / Cappuccinatore (if any) again. Your machine is ready for use.

Manual descaling

Pour the entire content of the Saeco concentrated descaling solution into the water tank, and then fill the tank with fresh water up to the MAX level. Place the tank back into the machine. The complete descaling process will take approximately 45 minutes. 

You can descale your machine as follows:

  1. Place an empty container (1,2 l) beneath the steam wand and cappucinatore (if any).
  2. Switch the machine on and press hot water button. At this point the machine will start dispensing the descaling solution. To finish the output press hot water button again.
  3. Turn your machine off to allow the remaining solution to act for 5 minutes.
  4. Please repeat the steps 1 – 3 until the complete fluid is dispensed. 

Please flush the machine. Empty the container and fill the water tank with fresh water. Now dispense the complete contents of the water tank (about 2 litres) through the hot water wand.
Now you can install the Pannarello / Cappuccinatore (if any) again. Your machine is ready for use.

Warning:
If descaling is interrupted by turning off the machine, the tank and the circuits must be rinsed in the machine.
