Question

How do I descale the Philips Intense coffeemaker?

Answer

Regular descaling prolongs the life of the appliance and guarantees optimal brewing results for a long time.
For normal use (two brewing cycles a day), descale the appliance:
• Every two months if you use soft water (up to 18 dH) or filtered water;
• Every month if you use hard water (over 18 dH).

To descale your appliance, we advise you to use white vinegar (up to max 8% acetic acid), as other
products may damage your coffeemaker.

To descale the appliance, please follow the steps below:

  1. Set the AromaSelect knob to the CALC position
  2. Fill the water tank with white vinegar
  3. Put a paper filter in the filter holder to collect the scale
  4. Press and hold the on/off switch until the word 'CALC' appears on the display.
The appliance operates for 5 minutes and then switches off for 10 minutes to let the descaling solution act.
The appliance switches back on and operates for another 10 minutes to complete the brewing cycle.
   5. Let the appliance cool down for 3 minutes and remove the paper filter.
   6. Repeat steps 2-5 once more. Reuse the vinegar in the jug to fill the water tank again.
   7. Fill the water tank with fresh cold water.
   8. Switch on the appliance and let it brew until the water tank is empty.
   9. Switch off the appliance and let it cool down for 3 minutes.
   10. Repeat steps 7 – 10
note:Repeat step 10 until the water in the jug no longer tastes or smells like vinegar.
